Discover celebrates and marks the first milestone in the careers of our qualified customer service representatives – promotion to Senior Associate. New senior associates leave the job to participate in leadership development in an exclusive venue, exploring leadership on a deeply personal level, including understanding the importance of a strong support network. For many, this is a game changer – an opportunity to recognize what is truly important to them as they strive to reach their potential. Discover develops skills that help our new senior associates make effective decisions in four key areas: career, community, family and self. After joining another PwC office, the industry and engagement team to follow her spouse, Travonte Aldrich, Senior Partner, Senior Partner at PwC, realized that he was not happy with all the changes. Based on his Discover experiences, he felt empowered to discuss his concerns with his support network – engagement manager, HR manager and relationship partner. When there was a break in his schedule, he spoke with his market team leader about the possibility of working on a client in his home sector of the industry. The feedback was positive and the senior associate felt like he had come home. Today, he is fully integrated into the new team, informally coaching his teammates, sharing his experiences and enjoying being newly married.

For Pete Johnson, Senior Partner at Advisory, an important idea from Discover about asking for help allowed him to cope with a sudden, life-changing situation with the support of his extended family and loyalty teams. He applied what he learned to Discover by implementing rituals – very specific behaviors that become authentic over time. This new capability has allowed him to care for a parent diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer (which he likes to report as being in remission), to be more present for his wife to strengthen and deepen their relationship, and to continue to work at a high level as part of customer engagements and internal company initiatives. Kierney Waldron, Senior Assurance Associate, came from Discover with several tools to help her act voluntarily, be present, stay positive and be flexible. Working with her Discover coach, Kierney was able to fulfill her dream of moving to the West Coast. Upon her return from Discover, she called her partner to help her find a transfer from Boston to Los Angeles. She also started a gratitude journal in which she wrote down three things she was grateful for every day. Thanks to Discover, Kierney was able to step out of her comfort zone and not only move across the country, but also move from financial services to healthcare and nonprofits.

For Laura Nelling, Senior Assurance Partner, working in public accounting was a good place to start: work, gain experience, qualify and move on. After a while, Laura wondered if the time had come for her to consider a new opportunity. That`s when she began her journey of self-research, which coincided with her experience at Discover. And it was at Discover that she found her answers. Laura learned that her most important value was «community.» During his three years with the company, there were many moving pieces of the puzzle, but his involvement in the company`s corporate responsibility initiatives was the one thing that remained constant. Laura realized that the things she did brought her fulfillment and that her values and those of the company were aligned. When she moved to a new office and couldn`t find anyone to communicate with locally, she took it upon herself and worked with the leader in corporate responsibility. Now, Laura is the go-to person if you want to get involved in local charity efforts.
