Legal Internship Summer 2022

A legal intern in our firm would gain experience in various areas of employment law. Most importantly, they learn the process of applying civil litigation law at the procedural level. You will participate in all stages of litigation at the litigation level and learn from experienced lawyers. A student intern researches and prepares internal legal notes and court documents relating to a variety of federal labor and labor laws. Interns may also have the opportunity to assist in litigation before administrative judges and federal district courts, attend meetings with client agencies, contact and question witnesses, and help prepare for trial. Where possible, trainees are invited to auditions, testimonies and comparative lectures. Through these experiences, interns develop their process skills, including research and writing, case management, negotiation, and client relations. SOL`s Civil Rights and Labor Management Department (CRLM) provides a wide range of legal services, including consulting, litigation, and rule-making assistance, for several components of the Department, including the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs; Office of Labour Management Standards; Center for Civil Rights; Office of Employment Policy for Persons with Disabilities; Bureau of Women`s Affairs; Centre for Faith-Based and Neighbourhood Partnerships; and Office of Learning. In general, CRLM`s client agencies manage and enforce a variety of civil rights, OEEs, and labor laws.

For more information on the MRLRC, please visit our website: www.dol.gov/agencies/sol/divisions/civil-rights-labor-management summer interns will immerse themselves in all aspects of CCA`s substantive legal work. Ideal candidates have: A legal intern from our firm gains hands-on legal experience assisting consultants and advocates in the program with 1) legal research; 2) developing litigation records through written disclosures, including the preparation of investigative requests and responses and participation in investigation statements; (3) the preparation of substantive motions, pleadings, settlement agreements and other court documents; and 4) preparation for and participation in hearings/mediations. Most articling students create detailed legal notes. Some interns work on briefs, complaints and post-trial applications. For more information, please contact: The main contacts for the OHS Division are Ashley Briefel (202-693-5451), Brian Broecker (202-693-5484) and Anne Godoy (202-693-5452). They can be contacted by e-mail at OSHinternship@dol.gov. The nature of the tasks and the outcome of the work vary, but all involve legal research and analysis. A trainee lawyer usually also receives a sample handwriting, for example a draft transfer memorandum. In recent years, articling students have spent considerable time analyzing the laws of other countries to verify their compliance with international standards on child labor in the context of the legal review of an annual report to Congress on the worst forms of child labor in more than 100 of our trading partners. And this should be the focus of work again this summer.

Law clerks may also work on projects that help ETLS lawyers analyze other countries` compliance with international labor regulations and compliance with international labor standards. They can also assist attorneys who provide legal advice related to U.S. involvement in international organizations, grants for child labor and forced labor projects, and congressionally commissioned reports on the worst forms of child labor. For summer internships, please send a cover letter, CV, writing sample and transcript to NYSOLIntern@dol.gov. For fall and spring internships, please send the same material to DeLaPaz.Barbara.C@dol.gov and Wilmsen.Amanda.M@dol.gov. When to apply: For the summer, candidate interviews are completed in March and offers are usually made within a week of an interview. This office participates in Texas Tech University`s full-time internship program during the academic year. These students are interviewed and accepted into the program at least eight months prior to the start date.

Our articling sessions are open to law students in their second or preferably third year who have experience in employment law. We seek a proven commitment to protecting the rights of vulnerable workers, foreign language skills (especially Spanish or Chinese) and an interest in litigation. SOL`s Employment and Training Legal Services (ETLS) department advises a number of clients. Our summer staff will primarily assist lawyers who provide legal advice to the Department`s Office of International Labour Affairs (ILAB) and employees of the Department`s Veterans Employment and Training Service (VETS) who administer the Uniform Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act, 1994 (USERRA), Federal legislation that establishes the rights and obligations of uniformed military personnel and their civilian employers. ETLS also provides legal advice to VET on employment and training programmes. He also advises the Employment Training Administration (ETA), which administers a variety of employment and training programs that contribute to the more efficient functioning of the U.S. labor market. Below you will find more information about specific internship opportunities and how to apply. Information on SOL`s diversity and inclusion policy can be found here.

In addition, you can contact the SOL Ambassadors directly to learn more about each office here. When to apply: We accept summer internship applications from December 1st to January 31st and extend offers until mid-March (usually earlier). We are accepting applications for internships in the fall semester until June 30 before the semester and internship applications in the spring semester until September 30 before the semester. When is this internship?: Opportunities throughout the year. Students have the opportunity to conduct legal research, write legal briefs, participate in policy discussions, and assist in drafting applications, requests for investigations, briefs, and regulatory guidance. We strive to ensure that students have at least one assignment that leads to a sample of writing for their job search. When is this internship?: Summer. As a general rule, we ask each intern for a minimum period of eight weeks, although they are asked to stay longer. We intend to hire two interns and give preference to students who have completed Year 2L. We will consider an intern`s preference to work remotely on a case-by-case basis.
