«The internship was great. It was a truly unique and enriching experience. I learned a lot about Alaska and saw so much that I had never seen before. I also learned a lot about the BLM and how it works within the state. Being on the trail and the river team was great. The band developed a strong sense of camaraderie because I was so much on the field and made a few new friends in this world. My internship gave me several opportunities to practice organizational, leadership, technical and team skills. April 22, 2022 – The National Bar Association – Commercial Law Section (NBA-CLS) announces the third edition of its Black Lawyers Matter (BLM) internship program, which is expected to have a positive impact on diversity in the legal profession. The program provides guidance and creates new opportunities for Black law students who face the challenge of getting quality employment.
Many BLM internships are made possible through public-private partnerships involving BLM offices and youth organizations in states and local communities. Opportunities to partner with the BLM to provide internships and other vocational training opportunities for youth and veterans are regularly posted on www.grants.gov. According to the National Association for Law Placement`s (NALP) 2021 Diversity Report, racial minorities remain underrepresented in the leadership of legal services organizations. People of colour accounted for about 28% of partners, but less than 9% of partners. Black lawyers outperformed 2.2% of partners for the first time since the NALP began collecting data, but the representation of black lawyers in law firms is still lower than that of Asian and Latin American lawyers, and these gaps have widened over time. In addition, women accounted for only 25.92 percent of all partners in 2021, and black women and Latinx women continued to account for less than 1 percent of all partners in U.S. law firms. In addition, the NBA-CLS and NBCUniversal will jointly offer a $10,000 scholarship to each intern placed at NBCUniversal. NBCUniversal invites 1L and 2L students with a demonstrable interest or previous experience in entertainment, news and/or media to apply for the 10-week summer internship. NBCUniversal makes the final selection of candidates and organizes internships directly with the selected students. Matching by other organizations is limited and employment opportunities and all scholarships or fellowships are managed by the participating organizations.
