The regulatory and supervisory approach of the PRA has three characteristics:[12] The Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) is responsible for the regulation and supervision of banks, building societies, credit unions, insurers and designated investment firms. The rules that apply to persons regulated by the PRA are set out in the PRA regulations. It makes an important contribution to the Bank`s fundamental objective of protecting and improving the stability of the United Kingdom`s financial system. There are also legal requirements – threshold conditions – that companies must meet. This includes companies that have adequate capital, liquidity and management. The PRA establishes standards and guidelines through regulation that it expects companies to comply with and monitor compliance.

It assesses whether financial companies are safe and sound, whether insurers provide adequate protection to policyholders, and whether companies continue to meet threshold conditions. It also assesses the risks that companies may pose to financial stability in the future and takes action against those it considers to be the riskiest. The PRA`s key supervisory decisions are made by its Prudential Regulation Committee – consisting of the Governor of the Bank of England, the Deputy Governor for Prudential Regulation, Financial Stability and Markets and Banking, the Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Conduct Authority, one member appointed by the Governor of the Bank with the consent of the Registrar and at least 6 members appointed by the Registrar. The committee is accountable to Parliament for the exercise of regulation-making powers. Financial institutions engaged in a number of regulated activities in the UK are regulated by the PRA and the FCA (for banks, insurers and certain large investment firms) and by the FCA (for all other firms). The PRA and FCA rules contain a complex web of regulatory requirements, with records proving that compliance is critical for many of them. Some parts of the regulations require more records to be retained than others. This guide highlights the FCA`s key areas that require the strictest record-keeping requirements.

The Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) is a British financial services regulator established as one of the successors to the Financial Services Authority (FSA). [1] [2] [3] The Authority is responsible for the prudential regulation and supervision of banks, mortgage societies, credit unions, insurers and large investment firms. It sets standards and supervises financial institutions at the level of each company. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] Although it was originally structured as a joint-stock company wholly owned by the Bank of England, the functions of the PRA have since been taken over by the Bank and are exercised by the Prudential Regulation Committee. [6] The company has since been liquidated. [7] The prudential approach of the PRA will not aim to apply a «zero default» regime. Rather, the PRA will want to ensure that a financial company that fails does so in a manner that avoids significant disruption in the delivery of essential financial services.

[13]. It will maintain close working relationships with other areas of the Bank, including the Fiscal Policy Committee and the Special Resolution Unit. [10] The PRA`s key supervisory decisions are made by the Prudential Regulation Committee, which includes the Governor of the Bank of England, the Deputy Governor for Financial Stability, the Deputy Governor for Monetary Policy, the Deputy Governor for Markets and Banks, the Chief Executive Officer of the PRA (and Deputy Governor for Prudential Regulation) and independent non-executive members. [11] The Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) has published a supervisory statement entitled «SS2/14 Solvency II: recognition of Solvency II tax» setting out its expectations vis-à-vis Solvency II insurance companies with regard to the recognition of deferred tax assets on the Solvency II balance sheet.
